TerraPower Announces First Chief Nuclear Officer

TerraPower is thrilled to announce that George Wilson has been appointed to Chief Nuclear Officer. In addition to his current role as Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, he will now also oversee the company’s nuclear safety, licensing and regulatory strategy.

A nuclear industry veteran, Mr. Wilson has held senior leadership positions across the full spectrum of the nuclear industry, including in plant operations and in the regulatory body. He began his long career in the U.S. Navy before joining the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) where he served at the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant as an instrumentation and control manager. In this role, he was part of the management team for completion of construction and the initial startup of the unit. He then went on to serve in plant operations as a shift technical advisor.

Following his time at TVA, Mr. Wilson joined the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as an operating license examiner and worked his way up into a senior executive position, where he retired in 2021, as an office director.

Mr. Wilson joined TerraPower in March 2021, where he built the company’s Regulatory Affairs group from the ground up. Under his leadership, TerraPower achieved a landmark industry milestone: securing the NRC's first modern commercial fast-reactor construction permit.
