NRC Formalizes Construction Exemption for Natrium® Plant Energy Island

Decision Supports TerraPower’s Decoupling Strategy for Kemmerer Unit 1

Bellevue, WA – May 8, 2025
Statement from TerraPower President and CEO Chris Levesque:

“TerraPower is pleased with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) official exemption decision that allows us to construct the energy island while they continue completing the construction permit application review process of the Natrium plant. Our innovative design, that decouples the nuclear reactor from the energy generating facilities, allows us to shorten construction schedules and reduce material costs; making the Natrium technology one of the fastest and most cost-effective solutions to deploy to help meet growing energy demand. We look forward to continuing to work with the NRC on our construction permit application for the nuclear island and ultimately bringing America’s next nuclear power plant to market.”
