TerraPower has finalized an agreement for support services for the Natrium Reactor1 Demonstration Project in Wyoming.
Bellevue, WA – September 17, 2024 - TerraPower, a nuclear innovation company, announced today that it has entered into a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) with Numerical Advisory Solutions (NAS), a Zachry Group company, for Owner’s Engineering support services and start-up support services for TerraPower’s Natrium Reactor Demonstration Project in Kemmerer, Wyoming.
“We’re excited to partner with Numerical Advisory Solutions as we continue our construction activities on the Natrium demonstration project,” said Tara Neider, senior vice president and project director for the Natrium Reactor Demonstration Project. “Their unparalleled expertise in engineering, construction and innovative solutions will be instrumental in the successful execution of our first Natrium Reactor and Energy Storage System.”
Zachry Group is North America’s pacesetter in turnkey engineering, construction, maintenance, turnaround and fabrication services to the energy, chemicals, power, manufacturing and industrial sectors. Numerical Advisory Solutions is internationally recognized for their expertise in analysis and code development, utilizing best-in-class software tools and services for the design and safe operation of nuclear facilities worldwide. NAS specializes in providing significant cost savings through margin recapture, operations flexibility, maintenance and outage task and schedule reduction, and effective design through advanced modeling and simulation methods.
Jim Harrell, president of Zachry Group’s Numerical Advisory Solutions, stated “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with TerraPower on this groundbreaking project, which is critical to advancing nuclear technology. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our commitment to innovative energy solutions and showcases our dedication to driving sustainable development.”
The Natrium technology features a 345 MWe sodium-cooled fast reactor with a molten salt-based energy storage system. The storage technology can boost the system’s output to 500 MWe for more than five and a half hours when needed. This innovative addition allows a Natrium plant to integrate seamlessly with renewable resources and leads to faster, more cost-effective decarbonization of the electric grid while producing dispatchable carbon-free energy. The Natrium demonstration plant is being constructed near a retiring coal facility and began non-nuclear construction activities this summer.
